With Miles 2nd birthday only ONE month away (holy cow!) I've been trying to figure out what type of themed party I want to go with. He has so many favorites right now that get him really excited, I really could go in a lot of different directions!
Last year, we did a travel themed party and focused on places we had traveled in his first year. I did everything in sky blue and red, and I found this awesome collection of digital scrapbooking papers and elements that I was able to incorporate into everything.
I started off by making a milestone poster for him and let that influence the design of everything:
I used some of the papers from the scrapbook kit to design the invitation and then mailed them in air mail envelopes.
For the food tables we used old suitcases we had on hand and some cute coasters scattered around that I found on clearance at Target. They just happened to be the same color scheme and included images of a suitcase, an airplane, the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building (perfect!) The globes I borrowed from my sister, and the food was all along the theme of the places we traveled (we took some really big creative liberties with some places!)
For the cake backdrop, I cut a large strip off of a sky blue paper backdrop and hung it vertically to create a sky with white gaff tape (which also created a border.) I cut some white cloud shapes and the banner out of a white paper backdrop, and attached the plane to the wall magically with just one nail! (I tied yarn to the underside of the plane and it created a perfect way to hang it at the angle I wanted, and also created a way to attach the paper banner. The letters for the banner I cut out of red card stock with my Silhouette machine and glued to the banner.
Miles seemed a little dazed the whole party--I think it was just a lot of people in our house and a lot to take in, but overall he had fun!
We set up a photobooth in front of our chalkboard wall so we could get everyone's photos.
The next day, Miles was in a really great mood, so I seized the few moments I knew I had and did a very impromptu photoshoot.
So spur of the moment that he wasn't wearing any shoes and decided he also didn't need socks.
